Damascus Virginia is the hiking trail capitol of the United States. It has the Virginia Creeper Trail, the Daniel Boone Trail, the Iron Mountain Trail, and the Appalachian Trail traverses the town. The AT blaze goes right down the main street of Damascus. They have more trails I could name, but I think you get the point. This town has a lot of hiking trails. As a result, the town sees many hikers stopping for supplies and many tourists coming for day hikes. I Arrived to Damascus by car. After a few hours of driving, I needed a break. Imagine how a hiker feels coming out of the woods after days on the trail. The hiker survived those days solely on grain bars, small forest creatures, beans, and small twigs. It doesn’t matter if you come to Damascus by car or by foot, there is a place here to feed your cravings, and you can remove that twig taste from your mouth. The Dairy King is an oasis for hikers and drivers alike. It has been in Damascus since 1958. I had two hotdogs all the way. They had slaw, chili, mustard, onions, and relish, and they were both excellent. I also got a vanilla milkshake and a traveler of custard for the road. Again, both the shake and the custard were excellent. And there is no twig aftertaste.
