In the kingdom of milkshakes there are very few places in the American Realm that will greatly exceed your expec-tations.
The Crown Candy Kitchen in St. Louis is one such place that does. The heart of every milkshake is the ice cream that goes
into it. Crown’s ice cream is homemade. It’s rich and creamy and is 14% butterfat. All the flavorings are blended
in the shop in an antique copper candy kettle. Only the finest ingre-dients are used. Their milkshakes are made with three
(3) large scoops and fresh milk. You get a 24oz serving. Your milkshake arrives in a stainless steel mixer with a soda fountain
glass. I had my usual vanilla milkshake. They also have chocolate (the favorite) cherry, pineapple, marshmallow, and strawberry.
My milkshake was euphoric. It had an incredible rich vanilla flavor and it was ice cold (not ice cream soup). The con-sistency
was perfect and I had to use a spoon (too thick for the straw) to eat it. It’s pure heaven in liquid form. In addition
to the shakes, they also have; dip cones, sundaes, banana splits, malts, chocolate phosphates, Newports and they do make their
own chocolate candy. The Crown’s neighborhood is not one of the best. It is rundown and currently in a state of disrepair.
The Crown Candy Kitchen itself, unlike its surroundings, is in excellent shape and is still there.
Think you can drink five (5) malts in 30 minutes?
The Crown’s policy since 1913 is that anyone who can drink five (5) malts in a half-hour gets them free!
