Skyline chili started in Cincinnati, America's Chili Capitol, in 1949 with one location. Today you can find Skyline locations all over Ohio, Northern Kentucky, Southeast Indiana and Florida, with the greatest concentration of their restaurants in and around Cincinnati. This, the Clifton neighborhood location, near the University of Cincinnati, on Ludlow Avenue is the oldest of the Skyline restaurants. I ordered a coney dog and a loaded bowl. My coney came with mustard, the secret recipe Skyline chili, diced onions and a mound of shredded cheddar cheese. My loaded bowl consisted of chili, sour cream, onions, no beans and a mound of shredded cheddar on top. Your coney dog is grilled and the bun is steamed. My coney dog and my loaded bowl were both superb. Still hungry I also ordered one regular 3-way, Skyline's signature chili dish. A three way has spaghetti noodles on the bottom, the noodles are covered with chili and the chili is topped with a mound of cheddar. It too was superb. Cincinnatian's consume more than two million pounds of chili each year, topped by 850,000 pounds of shredded cheddar cheese. Cincinnati also has more chili restaurants per capita than any other city in the United States. And with more than 100 chili parlors in the Cinci metro area the city really can claim the title of America's Chili Capitol and maybe even the World's Chili Capitol. Enjoy this great chili. Note: When the University of Cincinnati is in session, especially during the weekends, this Skyline can get packed very quickly.
