Located in Atlanta's hip Little Five Points neighborhood, the Vortex has been an Atlanta institution since 1992. All Vortex menu items are fresh (meaning not frozen) and are cooked to order. Their burgers (½ lb., char-grilled, 100% choice sirloin) are served on sesame-seed egg buns topped with lettuce, tomato and sweet red onions and you can have your burger cooked to any degree that you like. I chose the coronary bypass burger (cooked to medium) with a side of fried plantains and a Coke. The Vortex is the home of the coronary bypass burger. A bypass burger consists of a ½ lb. char-grilled sirloin patty, a fried egg, 3 slices of American cheese, 4 slices of bacon, plenty of mayo on the side and a pickle slice. My burger was outstanding! It's one of the best I have ever eaten. And my excellent plantains were a nice change from the usual fries. In addition to their world class burgers, the Vortex has Atlanta's largest selection of single-malt scotch, Atlanta's best beer selection and they were voted the best overall liquor selection in the city by Atlanta Magazine. They have also won Atlanta's best burger award every year since 1993.
