The family owned & operated Ye Olde Waffle Shoppe opened in 1972 and as its popularity grew with UNC students and locals, so too did the lines. We were there the day after a Heel’s – Boston College basketball game and although the line was long, it did move along somewhat quickly (UNC – Duke basketball games produce the longest lines @ Ye Olde). Once inside, you can snag a menu from on top of the ice machine to read while you wait. Happily seated in a booth, I ordered a waffle (no powdered sugar), two eggs (scrambled), sausages and milk. All of my selections were excellent! The Ye Olde Waffle Shoppe was also selected by Esquire as one of the 59 Best Breakfast Places in America. It’s worth the wait. Enjoy!
