One of the best things a hungry traveler can find in an unfamiliar town after midnight is a diner. The 29 Diner in Fairfax is the real thing. The 29 was manufactured by the Mountain View Diner Company in Singac, New York. It arrived by truck to its present location on July 20th 1947. The 29 Diner is a Virginia Historic Landmark and its one of only a few remaining original Virginia diners left. Everything from its sometimes fully lit neon sign to the glass brick corners, full marble counter running the length of the inside, marble table tops @ each booth seat, terrazzo floors, tile under the marble top counter, the 24 swivel stools @ the counter to the sleek art deco patterns in the gleaming stainless steel are all original. Hungry for breakfast, I wanted hotcakes and sausage covered in maple syrup. The service here is incredibly fast so, I didn't have to wait long for my sugar rush to proceed. My maple covered breakfast was excellent. Breakfast 24/7, it doesn't get any better than the 29. Sorry, no credit cards or checks, cash is king here. Enjoy the diner and breakfast!
